My group and I looked at a range of scripts for our compose performance. However our group consisted of six girls which restricted our choices. Some of the scripts we considered doing were, Ladies Day, by Amanda Whittington, but we agreed that the male roles in that script are too important, so we decided not to do it. We besides considered, Girls and Dolls but we felt this was too dark and sinister and we unusual something a little more cheerful. So finally we colonised for Be My Baby because we enjoyed the humour in the piece, we liked the potential difference for music in the piece and withal felt it would be challenging as it has very serious themes in it as well. We liked the fact that Be My Baby is a tragic comedy. We cast our piece by selecting a role, then escape a monologue from the role. I was chosen for the role of Delores because the others in my group felt I could use my facial expressions to show her gullible personality well. Also this was th e role I foxy to have as I personally felt it tally my performance skills, especially my naturally soft voice. I researched the sort and genre of the play and I found aside that it is in the style of realism, I as well researched what realism means, so I could properly achieve it in the play.

I found bulge out that realism means something that could happen in everyday tide over and things that real people have to go through, such as girls in the 1960s having to be taken to a place away from their families and community so know one would arrest forth out they became pregnant whilst unmarried (see my app endices). The play was indite in 1997 but i! t was set in the early 60s, so our group looked at how girls acted back then and also how they were evaluate to act by society, so that we could portray this in our characters. We also researched what general life was like in the 60s, and looked at the different props and costumes we would need to have, to enhance realism.
